| Description: | J P Oliver Jones, front row to the right of the captain. Phil was at Ruthin between 1932 and 1940 having gained a full scholarship. He was successful in both academic and sporting endeavours:- seven school certificates with distinctions in English Language and French; head boy in 1939; captain of the first XI cricket team; vice-captain of the first XV rugby team; captain of the hockey team. After service with the Royal Artillery in WWII and completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in General Sessions and Theology he returned to teach at Ruthin in 1948, leaving in 1969. |
